Despite the numerous scandals and controversies surrounding Tiger Woods's personal life, this golfing legend had accomplished one positive thing at least in 2010. He had brought the PGA Championship Tour back to Pennsylvania.
Tiger's PGA tour, the AT&T National, needed a temporary hosting spot, and it was the Pennsylvania golf courses that were chosen from a range of other courses. The permanent base of the AT&T National is actually the Congressional Country Club, which is located nearby Washington D.C. However, the Congressional Country Club has recently undergone renovations in preparation for the 2011 U.S. Open.
The AT&T National is hosted at the Aronimink Golf Club, in Newtown Square, where Tiger Woods showcased his talents. The Aronimink Golf Club will be AT&T's venue for both 2010 and 2011. It is planned that the AT&T National will return to the Congressional Club again in 2012.
The arrival of both the AT&T National and Tiger Woods to Pennsylvania has been an important step to improving the exposure of Pennsylvania golf courses, which have experienced relatively few tour stops in recent years.
